December 23, 2025 – The gaming industry is in mourning following the sudden death of Vince Zampella, co-creator of the Call of Duty franchise and founder of Respawn Entertainment, at age 55. Zampella died in a single-car crash on December 21, 2025.

Vince Zampella, a visionary who shaped modern FPS games, passed away in a Ferrari accident on Angeles Crest Highway in California. His contributions to Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Titanfall, Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi, and Battlefield touched millions.

Accident Details

The crash occurred around 12:45 PM on December 21 on Angeles Crest Highway in Altadena. The Ferrari veered off the road, struck a concrete barrier, and caught fire. Zampella was trapped and died at the scene; a passenger was ejected and later died at hospital. An Emergency SOS was sent via satellite from an Apple device.

Cause under investigation – no confirmation on alcohol/drugs yet.
