AirPods Pro is Apple's oldest current-generation device still on sale. Released in October 2019, the earbud was an instant hit with iPhone users, and the tech giant decided to keep it in its lineup of wireless earbuds. 

Even though Apple released AirPods Max in December 2020 and the third-generation AirPods in October 2021, AirPods Pro can still be bought by fans at Apple Stores. 

Since Apple constantly keeps the device on the list of its updates, AirPods Pro users can easily connect the device even to the latest iPad or iPhone. However, that may change soon as Apple is gearing to release its latest wireless earbud, the AirPods Pro 2. 

AirPods 2 Release

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, people can hold off on purchasing AirPods Pro as Apple is set to release a new model before 2022 ends. 

DigiTimes reported that AirPods Pro 2 would feature the same design as AirPods Pro, but it will have skin-detect sensors instead of IR sensors, an upgraded wireless chip, support for Apple Lossless Audio Codec playback, updated motion sensors with a focus on fitness tracking and sound-emitting charging case with a focus on location-tracking. 

The publication also suggested that AirPods Pro 2 will feature self-adaptive noise cancellation capabilities, temperature sensors, heart rate sensors, hearing aid capabilities, and a USB-C port. 

AirPod Pro 2's sound-emitting charging case will integrate into the Find My app on iPhones, similar to how users can emit a sound from their individual AirPods inside the case to help locate them. 

As for the design, Mac Otakara reported that the charging case for the AirPods Pro 2 would be more compact. The dimensions listed are 46mm tall, 54mm wide, and 21mm thick, so it is easy to carry around. 

Apple Lossless Audio

One of the biggest upgrades expected for the AirPods Pro 2 is the support for Lossless audio. All of Apple's current AirPods products, including AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and the third-generation AirPods, do not support Lossless audio, according to MacRumors. 

This is because AirPods play audio through Bluetooth, limiting them to the AAC codec. Higher quality Apple Lossless Audio Codec files may need to be streamed to AirPods directly to circumvent Bluetooth and allow a Lossless listening experience. 

However, it is possible that the tech giant could develop an alternative solution to bypass the limits of Bluetooth. 

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the launch of the AirPods Pro 2 will happen around the fourth quarter of 2022, which runs from October through December. 

AirPods Pro 2 Possible Price

The original AirPods Pro has a retail price of $249, which at the time of its release made the wireless earbuds the most expensive in the category. 

According to Tom's Guide, AirPods Pro continues to sell well, so there is a possibility that Apple will not lower its price. 

As for the AirPods Pro 2, Twitter leaker @LeakApplePro tweeted that the AirPods Pro 2 will cost the same as its predecessor. Apple may feel compelled to increase the price by $25 or $50 if major upgrades are implemented.
