Tesla Giga Shanghai's new daily EV production is expected to reach 3,000 units after the major upgrades are completed.

As of press time, the automaker's gigafactory in China is considered the most productive EV factory across the globe. 

Previously, Tesla shared its projected annual capacity increase from 450,000 EVs to more than 750,000 electric vehicles from the first quarter to the second quarter of 2022. 

China's COVID-19 restrictions greatly affected many manufacturers in Asian countries. However, Tesla Giga Shanghai can still function properly despite recent lockdowns. 

"But in spite of all these challenges, it was one of the strongest quarters in our history," said Tesla CEO Elon Musk during his previous earnings call, as reported by Teslarati. 

Tesla Giga Shanghai To Produce 3,000 EVs Daily? 

According to InsideEVs' latest report, Tesla is still conducting major upgrades in its Gigafactory Shanghai. Recently, the EV developer paused its production so that it could enhance its product line. 

The automaker already completed the enhancements it made for the Model Y assembly line on July 16. As of writing, it focuses on upgrading the Tesla Model 3 production line. 

These enhancements are expected to be completed as early as Aug. 7. Tesla Giga Shanghai's Model 3 production activities are expected to resume. 

On the other hand, Tesla is also expected to introduce a third shift of employees to the Giga Shanghai factory.

All these enhancements are expected to expand the manufacturing plant's EV capacity, allowing the automaker to produce 3,000 units each day.  

Other Tesla Gigafactory Activities

While Tesla Giga Shanghai is being enhanced, the automaker is also upgrading its Gigafactory Berlin.

The automaker said that the improvements in this manufacturing plant are mainly to achieve higher production capacity. 

But, it needs to shut down Giga Berlin first before it can start doing the enhancements. Tesla announced that the operation suspension is expected to last for two weeks.
