YouTube's Dislike Removal Action Could be Its Downside, Says Co-Founder: Here's Why Dislike Count is Important in YT
YouTube's decision to remove the dislike count on its platform could be the most intriguing change the company has made for the past few years. This action of YT has generated different opinions, but most of them are quite against the tech firm's update.
Even one of its co-founders, Jawed Karim, claims that the removal of dislike counts poses some possible issues in the giant video platform, which can even lead to its downfall.
To show his disappointment in the latest YouTube innovation, Karim even changed the caption of YT's very first video titled "Me at the Zoo," which was published back on Apr. 24, 2005.

"Why would YouTube make this universally disliked change? There is a reason, but it's not a good one, and not one that will be publicly disclosed," said YT co-founder in the edited caption of the video.
YouTube Dislike Count Removal Disappoints Karim
According to The Verge's latest report, Karim explained several reasons why the dislike count annoys him. One of these is that the total number of dislikes allows watchers to identify the bad content over the good ones.
Jawed added that not all user-generated videos have quality content. On the other hand, he also explained that the consumers' interaction in the platform should not be interfered with by YouTube.
These include comments, dislikes, likes, as well as shares. Aside from YouTube, other social media sites are also enhancing their services.
Why YT Removed the Public Dislike Count in the First Place
YouTube explained why it removed the public dislike count feature on its platform during its recent UI 2021 event. The giant social media platform said that it wants to promote peaceful interactions among its users.
It believes that the absence of dislike counts would prevent harassment on the video site. However, it seems like most of the YT users are also disappointed in the company's innovation. As of the moment, YouTube hasn't confirmed if it would return or completely continue with its dislike update.
